Karla and Gord arrived "bear"ing gifts.  The kids were ecstatic.

Jevin fell asleep with his that night.

The kids enjoyed splashing around in their pool

One day we went to the Warman Spray Park.

We checked out the cats at Uncle Stan and Auntie Joan's farm.
We took Kenzie to the dog park in Saskatoon
Karla joined us for swimming lessons

June 27 Power Outage

Well, for goodness sakes, I planned a relatively large meal for out of town family and then the power goes off for 6 hours.  I don't know how to turn on the BBQ so a neighbor rescued me.  Most everything could be cooked on that. I even tried the dessert on the BBQ.  That was an epic fail hence the reason it is not pictured.
The freezer in the garage went from freezing to just refrigerating at that point.  We just assumed if we didn't peak, all would be fine.  So a couple weeks later I went to take out some food and found that for two weeks it had been refrigerator temperature... All my proteins lost.  A sad, sad day.

June 2012 - My Garden

 My Garden at 6 weeks
 My potatoes...
They were a new experience.  Everyone said I needed seed potatoes... Well, I looked for seeds.  Apparently they are just regular potatoes... well, sort of.  So I went to the store and bought a bag of potatoes.  Then my neighbor poked his head over the fence and told me what I really should have looked for.  Apparently seed potatoes are potatoes that haven't been treated with chemicals.  He told me exactly what to look for... but I already had this bag of potatoes that I had cut up and were ready to plant.  He suggested just planting them.  They were treated so that sprouts wouldn't form, but they would eventually grow.  He was right.  They are coming up now.  These are the seed potatoes.  The regular potatoes are just peeking out of the grown behind these ones.

And I don't feel too badly about not knowing because as I was telling this story in one of the staff rooms and a teacher mentioned that banana potatoes were wonderful to grow.  One of the other teachers walked in and asked what banana potatoes were.  I joked that they peeled quite easily... just like bananas.  That teacher asked, "Really?!!"   hahaha

 My beets...
 My tomatoes...
 My spinach....
We had spinach salad with lunch today.
 My lettuce....
 My carrots....
 My cucumbers...
An amateur mistake.  I bought seed tape... but then saw they plant in walmart.  I thought perhaps these were some plants that should be started earlier and not from seeds, given our climate.  All six of the plants I bought from walmart DIED.  So on the advice of my aunt, I still planted the seed tape... about three weeks ago.  These are the cucumbers plants that have popped up since.
 My Onions....
 My Leeks....
 My Peas....
 My String Beans...
My Sunflowers...

EAL Inspired

They speak to greater things.

Kid-isms

Scrolling through my facebook posts, I've found all the "funnies" my kids have said in the last few months.  Enjoy.

***********************
Jevin: You know when people have mustaches on their chin... (trying to describe a beard)

***********************
I was in my garden dealing with weeds yesterday afternoon. Josie and Jevin were playing in the yard. Josie started touching the back of her neck and looking confused, "Mom, there's mud falling from the sky!"
I was like, "What? Turn around."
Yep, she got caught in a bomber attack. Guess some robins were taking out their frustrations on my little girl.

************************
Me: Say grace.
Josie: I did... in my head.
Jevin closing his eyes really hard and concentrating: Say it again. I can't hear it!

************************
Josie: Mommy, can I have a sleepover at Jevin's tonight?

************************
Me: Josie, is your friend Annie going back to Texas this summer?
Josie: Oh, yes! She migrates... just like the polar bears.

************************
"Bzzz, bzzzzz. Mom, that's what it sounds like when a bee farts." So says Jevin.

************************
Josie was talking about her upcoming field trip to the grain elevator in town. Jevin piped up, "I want to see the grey alligator, too!"

************************
Josie got her pictures taken with Santa tonight. When Josie saw the RCMP in their red uniforms she asked me if they were real police officers or if they were just dressed in red because Santa was there.

I think that brings us up to date on the kid-speak.

May 2012 - Lemonade Stand

Josie and our neighbor had a lemonade stand one weekend.  It was quite entertaining, but they worked out the kinks and made a little moola... Five dollars, I believe.
Jevin rode back and forth. He ran back and forth.  He went in and out of the house.  He basically found ways to keep out of trouble while Josie was occupied.  In the background you can see Jason working on his front garden.
I wanted to just put grass seed on it.  Jason insisted on planting plants.  It is now his garden and his responsibility.  I will have nothing to do with it.  My garden is in the backyard and all the vegetables are popping out of the ground...  I'll post pictures when the garden is bursting later this summer.

May 2012 - Josie's Blanket

Josie's class made blankets.  Josie did all the sewing for this project.  And when she brought it home she insisted... and I mean INSISTED that it be for Auntie Cheryl's baby, so we packed it up and sent it off.  It arrived for Mother's day.

April 2012 - The Kitchen

The ugly grey kitchen is now green... and brown.  Grey was just so cold when seen next to the gold walls in the living room.
I like it, but the colours took some tweaking.  The light green was the dark green originally.  I had to go back and get a darker green made up, but it all worked out in the end.

March 2012 - New House

On March 16th, we got possession of our new house.  This is what it looked like before we unpacked the crates from Taiwan... before we accepted donations from family... before we trolled kijiji for furniture... Well, before we did a whole lot of things.
