Ice Cream
We went to McDonald's today after dinner. It was a nice evening and Josie had eaten her dinner very quickly. So we walked over there. Santa was so smart at Christmas. He went to Toy's R Us and bought an awesome big. (Thanks Jason!!!) We put that on and Jevin went wild with his cone.

Sick Days...
On Saturday night (5/23) Josie we were eating dinner as usual. Josie was eating slowly as usual. We all finished and waited and waited and waited. Finally we gave up and moved to the living room, leaving Josie to finish eating in the kitchen. And she had the usual excuses, mainly "My tummy hurts." Apparently it did as she spewed EVERYTHING on to the rug!
After cleaning her up, Jason took her to the doctor across the street. He gave her an injection in the butt. She was not impressed, but it did help to keep everything inside for a while. We let Josie sleep on the couch with a barf bucket next to her. I slept on the living room floor just so I could keep an eye on her. (Ohhhhh, my back!) Well, she woke up and... PUKED! By this time it was Sunday, so there were no clinics open. I decided to take her to the Christian Hospital's Pediatric Emergency. I resembles a normal doctor's office, not the frightening real ER. And although the other hospital had Sunday hours, the doctor that was on is the BEST so I knew we would need to wait for a very long time and her vomiting was getting progressively worse.
The first doctor's English was... not wonderful. She asked us to stay in the Pediatric Observation Unit (POU) and gave Josie an IV. Of course we followed her instructions. I had explained that we had gone to the doctor the night before. Someone else came to us later and asked us why we went to a pharmacy and not a doctor the night before... Another reason why I say her English was poor. No worries, her shift was over shorty after we arrived and the remaining doctors spoke English well.

I had seriously thought that the doctor would just give us meds and let us go home, so I had brought little. Jason came later that afternoon with some things, but obviously he had to bring Jevin. All the nurses were like, "Oh so cute... Oh so... HOT! Go see the doctor!" Yep... Jevin joined the ranks. He has tonsillitis! So he went, got meds and then the boys went home.
Josie puked all day but eventually she was able to hold some water in after they put some other meds in her IV. I begged the doctor to let us go home. He agreed and we left.
I wanted to keep an eye on her, so I stayed in her bed with her. It was smart and stupid at the same time. As she was puking all over the bed and me, I was able to grab the barf bucket to minimize the spew.
Needless to say, when she threw up again in the morning, we went back... and got to have an IV all over again. Oh yay!

Now it was Monday meaning we could see a doctor in outpatient department. Haha... He said that we needed to stay and that we should go back to the POU. Talk about eating crow. I guess I shouldn't have begged the doctor to let us go. The same one that discharged her the night before was there again.
Once again we stayed all day only this time, when we left, we didn't need to return.
We kept her home Tuesday and Wednesday as well. Thursday and Friday were Dragon Boat Festival holiday days for the country.
As of today, she seems much better. The hyperactivity has certainly returned! haha

Jason's Camera (5/9)
Little Squeaks Speak
I have been saving up all the funny things Josie has said to me. I just haven't had the time to get on the blog, so I kept a paper in the kitchen. She usually said these things around dinner time... I have four funny little experiences ...
1. She had learned about Dragon Boat Festival which we will have next week. So she came home telling me all about rice dumpling and all sorts of things... But my favorite was when she was telling me about the Dragon Boat Vegetable.
2. It has been hard for Jevin to learn Bye-Bye. These last few weeks, he has done it randomly... certainly not on cue. So when one of her teachers said goodbye to us and Jevin waved bye-bye we were shocked. And Josie said, "Jevin waved bye-bye. I knew it. I knew he could do it. My heart is not broked anymore." I just thought it was cute. I think it might be one of those "you just had to be there" moments.
3. We have been talking about the three little pigs recently. There is a new school being built behind out house. She has some nice new vocab like cement, cement mixer, dump truck, etc. And since it is being made of concrete, it must be the smart little pig's house.
That leads to "Little Pig! Little Pig! Let me come in!"
"Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!"
So recently I said, "Little Jo! Little Jo! Let me come in!" To which she responded. trying really hard to remember, "We don't want to let you in with our hairy chins."
4. After the wedding we came home with some favours. They were little baggies of goodies. One of the goodies was a tea light in the shape of an apple. Mistaking it for a candy, she took a bite out of it! Oh, the look on her face!!!!!
Now Jevin's turn.
So as I said before, he was having issues with Bye-Bye. Not anymore. He bye-bye's like no one's business. He also kiss-bye's. (Jason taught him that on Saturday.) And... my favorite new word.... His first words were slow or quick some may say. Josie only said one sound from about 5 months on, so it was easy to say her first word was Da-Da. He had numerous sounds from about 5 months on. It was hard to say any sound was his first word. He has definitely mastered the word Daddy. It is his favorite word... but another has finally made its way into his vocabulary. It was during nap time on Saturday. He didn't want to sleep. He just stood in his crib screaming..... "Mama, Mama,Mama, Mama, Mama...." Until now he has only said "Ummummummuuummmuummm." Woohoo!

Kevin and Myra's Wedding
The happy coupleMyra wore three different dresses. First she arrived in a very beautiful white dress. The back was entirely covered with fabric roses. WOW!
The second dress was a gorgeous red dress with an open back.
And the third was a lovely purple dress.
Apparently there was some questions about the proposal... (just kidding)
Kathryn, Olivia and Josie-Funny-Face!Josie was wearing her new princess dress that Grandma Marsh sent to her. We also went to the salon and had her hair done. She really looked like a princess and she attracted a lot (A LOT) of attention at the wedding. People were taking pictures of her and with her all night long. And Josie was a super star. She said yes to everyone who asked her and she smiled nicely too (except for me obviously).
Jevin was a little upset as it got later. He is used to his strict 7:30 bedtime so as it got to be 8:30 he was freaking out. I drove us home and Jason and Josie stayed finish up the party and took a taxi home.

Babies.....
Josie brought down one of her MANY dolls. Jevin naturally wanted what his sister had. The fight ensued and ended with Josie running back upstairs and getting a second doll.
Jevin Gets High
Breakfast....
For those of you who will be joining us here, I just thought a nice look at what we eat almost every day was in order... And how convenient that Josie just happened to be eating one. It is called Dan Bein. It is an egg fried on Phyllo pastry and then rolled in whatever you want in it. We usually get the smoked chicken.

The Love Affair
As parents our worst nightmare has been reached. Josie is infatuated with boys. Yep, that's right. She's in love. His name is Boss. (Apparently it sounds close to his Chinese name.) And every day she would come home saying that she loved Boss and that she was going to marry Boss.
But as all relationships have their rocky patches, so to did Josie's. Suddenly Josie wasn't going to marry Boss anymore. This information even made it into the communication book that is sent home to us every day. There was some lover's quarrel.
Josie told me that Boss no longer loved her. She said he liked Elaine instead. He was going to marry Elaine.
Devastated, she found another boyfriend. Now she is going to marry Kenny. I guess Kenny is a good second choice, but Boss will always be number one for our little broken hearted girl. You see, I can still trick her into a conversation about Boss. She is filled with so much excitement when she speaks about him and then she remembers that she is no longer engaged to the-Boss-man but now to plain old Kenny.

When their love affair was fresh, Josie came home with this picture. Note how it has Boss written all over it... Oh, and see all the hearts? I am impressed that she figured out how to spell his name

Night Market
Oh, I have to laugh when things like this happen... It's the evil me that comes out.
So Josie and I were walking through the night market last night. Naturally people were pointing and saying, "Hoa ke-ai!" This one lady was pointing and pulling at her kids to look at the foreign kid... Well, recently it has been raining... and as she was pulling at her kid, pointing at Josie and walking forward to keep in step with us... she stepped in a huge puddle - high heals and all. Needless to say, Josie was no longer the object of her attention.
After all that excitement... Josie went finishing. There is a little magnet attached to the end of a cooking chopstick. All the 'fish' have screws in them somewhere so Josie can snag them.

Carnival!!!
Jason took Josie to a carnival at a Changhau high school this Saturday. It was great fun for both of them. There was even a haunted house. He said that they needed to buy a drink and then goo in the haunted house to find the ticket and when they had the ticket they could claim their drink.
They had a little garage-type sale there too. Lots of little things for very little money. He bought himself a golf club for all of 50nt...

Funnies
This video is amazing. They use sheep to create some amazing things. I showed it so some classes at the end of class.
LED Sheep Art
And Jason sent this to me by email. This guy's facial expressions are the best. You just need to ignore the fact that he is chewing his gum like a cow. That is explained a little later.
Rich Guy Flies
Enjoy!

Playing Catch-Up
Okay... So I still haven't found my charger and there is a new complication. My display on my phone is now cracked! So they have informed me that it would be cheaper to get a new phone than it would to replace the charger and the screen. So as I consider this, research this, and try to decide on this... you are stuck with cell phone pictures.

So as I was driving home today I happened to see a truck... Well, actually the truck tried to cut me off. I made my way through traffic and at the next red light we ended up almost side by side. I happened to look over and.... Tada! There was baby Josie and baby Olivia! Needless to say, I pulled out my phone just in the nick of time!

In addition to Jevin's excitement two weekends ago... he decided to get sick every time we gave him medicine. Since I believe in finishing a sickness at the hospital we started at, I took him back to the big hospital. Thank goodness the English speaking nurse, Sho-Lien, was there. Sho-Lien helped me the whole way through. I mean, I can do it myself, but it is so much easier when an expert shows me where to go and what to do. We had to take x-rays. NOT FUN!!! And he turned out not to be as bad off as the doctor had thought. (Oh and I asked yet another doctor about the first one saying "Whooping Cough" and Jevin being vaccinated for that... Perhaps the first the first doctor was just making a comparison to the sound of the cough. It definitely must have been a communication error.)
So in this picture we are at a coffee shop waiting for our number to be called at the doctor's office. Jevin is drooling over all sorts of cakes that he will never get. Though, I guess he was cute enough to attract attention. The servers were all trying to get him to smile and one even brought him a cookie.

The local McD's had a show on Sunday. On Thursday I got some take out from McD's (to speed up dinner - explained below). We picked up this flier that said that Ronald McDonald would be there. I thought it was pretty cool, so I took her. Well, was it ever cool!!!!!!
He asked questions and played games and did all sorts of things. Josie had a great time and even won a prize. Then we went inside and I handed Josie a one hundred NT dollar bill and told her to order the Happy Meal that she wanted. They gave her an ice cream cone and her Happy Meal for free. I was shocked...
Then when we were upstairs, Ronald came up for pictures with everyone... And I mean everyone! Not just the kids, but all the people. He went to every table. It was very, very cool. I have no memory of Ronald McDonald expect from commercials. Josie was totally into it!

Saturday was a wonderful day! We had rain all week and then Saturday was a gloriously sunny day. Josie and I got up early and left the two boys at home. We went to Ba Gwa Mountain and played. First she rode a mechanical horse. Then we went to the playground where she met a little girl. Josie played with her for a bit and then we moved on to the sand picture place. Basically it is a picture made up of stickers. You remove certain parts and cover them with the sand to create a picture. It is fun. We invited the little girl to join us and bought her a picture too. Josie had so much fun. One of the merchants even helped Josie and the girl make their pictures.
Hello Kitty was her first choice and the Power Rangers was her second pick.

Josie always asks to play in her school's playground. I let Jevin walk to school on Friday. He was happy. They played for about 20 minutes. Then Jevin FREAKED OUT. It was even hard for me to carry him home.

Josie failed a test at school. Not to worry. She is only 4 years old. She failed an eye exam given by the Huatan Health center (as I understand it). We then had to take her to a 'real' eye doctor and have her checked out. The technician put these glasses on her and popped lenses in and out. Then we got to see the doctor. He took a look at her eyes and said she had an astigmatism. Then he prescribed eye drops to fix it... and we are to go back in two weeks to see if they helped.
EYE DROPS!!!! Come on!!! Once again, another example of Taiwanese doctors' over prescribing.
I pretty much think it is her lot in life to have glasses. We all have them: parents, aunts, cousins, grandparents. And from what I can read, the only way to fix astigmatisms are either glasses or surgery. EYE DROPS???!!! Ack!
