Jason's Visit in May (Part 4)

The Taiwan Folk Village filled up half a day for them, but as with most places in Taiwan, they have the budget to build but neglect to plan for the maintenance.  It was run down and most things were not opened.  We first discovered this place right after the 921 earthquake in 1999 simply by chance.  So much has changed in 12 years.

On their way home they passed by the Lexus Transformer...
(You can see the HUGE fire gutted building behind it.  HUGE FIRE.)

After the Folk Village they found Tien Way... The flower capital of Taiwan.

An electric construction worker.  I guess if someone hits him, he won't sue for damages...

Jason's Visit in May (Part 3)

One of the days we took him to see the country side.  We had heard nice things about a little country road leading out of Huatan and into Nantou.
 Pineapples were in season.

And it seems that it is a rite of passage for all our guests to get lost with us.  As we drove we found an information center and wow did they have information for us.

They showed us the traditional tea ceremony and gave us traditional "Wa Gway" to eat.  They were just so hospitable.  It was so nice to see.
They also recommended that we find the temple nearby.  They were having a festival of sorts.

This woman was whipping herself.  You can see the blood below.

The Taiwanese never cease to amaze me by what they feel is statue worthy....  This one was at an intersection in Nantou.

And we finished off our evening by going to Gin Min E Jay, a popular street in Taichung.  This man next to Jason paints fans and things without the use of his arms... as he has none... Yep, he uses his mouth to paint.  What a truly inspiring individual.

Jason's Visit in May (Part 2)

The two Jasons went to Taipei for a 2D1N stay.  The bought beer at the station's 7-eleven store and drank it on the train.  Is it allowed?  Well, no one questioned them.
That evening they made it to Snake Alley Night Market.

And had the specialty of the night market....

The next day they went to Taipei 101.
